On Friday I went back down to Atlantic City to see Live with Bush this time instead of Counting Crows. I was pleasantly surprised with both the concert and my sister's reaction. I never know with her when it comes to music and concerts since she tends to go more for Britpop or indie bands. I'm rock most of the time, whether it's alt-rock or metal.
Turns out that Live was on her list of bands to see except they broke up for about 20 years so she never had the chance. Last time I saw them they were great, but stuck very much to greatest hits, and Ed Kowalczyk couldn't hit the high notes so pitched songs lower (not that there's anything wrong with that, Billy Joel does the same). I can tell that they've been practicing both the vocal side of things as well as the performance end, so it was a completely different type of performance with a couple of covers and some more obscure songs of theirs, so I was very happy to see that. Ed's also taken a page out of Bush's book and does the in-audience singing which I always love from a band.
Bush was amazingly good as well and Gavin Rossdale hasn't lost anything. I never saw them live before but would absolutely go again if given the chance; I was also surprised that I still remembered most of the lyrics to their big hits as well :).
And my sister loved it, miracle of miracles! Historically her reception has been lukewarm at best minus They Might Be Giants, who we're both huge fans of, so I was very happy that she also enjoyed the concert since it definitely leaned heavier on the rock spectrum. She even stayed off her computer while we were in AC, although I think she was going through computer withdrawal since she basically insisted we go straight home the next day then buried herself in her computer for the remainder of the time I was there (SOP).
Next weekend we do my rescheduled birthday party and Father's Day, and I hope it goes as well as the concert did.
